Hathras: The Thana Sadabad Police, in collaboration with the Special Operations Group (SOG), have successfully cracked the case of a staged cash theft involving an agent of Swatantra Micro Fin Finance Company. The agent, Kapil Kumar, conspired with his cousin to fake a robbery and was subsequently arrested along with his accomplice. The police recovered the stolen amount of ₹107,000 and the motorcycle used in the crime.

On August 6, Kapil Kumar, son of Mahesh Chandra Sharma, a resident of Diva Himidpur village, Aligarh, and employed as an SFO with Swatantra Micro Fin Finance Company, reported a theft to Thana Sadabad. He claimed that while collecting ₹107,000 in cash, he stopped his bike between Salempur and Badhaar to relieve himself, leaving the bag of cash on his motorcycle. He alleged that two individuals on a motorcycle approached from behind and stole the bag.

The police, with the help of the SOG and surveillance teams, began investigating the case. During a routine check, based on a tip-off from an informant, the police apprehended Kapil Kumar and his cousin, Durgesh alias Gaurav, on the road between Nagla Beru and Mangru village. Upon questioning, the two confessed to staging the robbery.

Kapil Kumar, also known as Praveen Kumar, revealed that he had studied up to the 12th grade. His cousin Durgesh, who is married and previously employed by a company that laid him off due to economic downturns, collaborated with him in planning the fake robbery. Kapil handed over the bag containing the cash and two mobile phones to Durgesh, and shortly afterward, he reported the fake theft to the police.

During interrogation, Durgesh further admitted that he had also planned to rob another collection agent in his village in Aligarh, intending to execute the crime in the coming days.

The police team involved in solving this case has been awarded a reward of ₹25,000 for their diligent work in uncovering the truth behind the staged theft.
