Why Trump Isn’t Leading Peace Efforts in India-Pakistan Crisis

As tensions escalate between India and Pakistan over the Kashmir conflict, former US President Donald Trump is showing little interest in leading peace efforts. Experts say the US's traditional leadership role in global diplomacy is missing this time.

Why Trump Isn’t Helping Much in the India-Pakistan Problem

By The Vocal News

There’s a big problem happening between India and Pakistan. Some people were attacked and killed in Kashmir, a place both countries argue over. After this, India said the attackers came from Pakistan, and India launched airstrikes. Pakistan got angry and said they would respond.

Usually, when something this serious happens, the United States helps both countries calm down. But this time, former US President Donald Trump is not doing much.

What Did Trump Say?

When asked about the fight between India and Pakistan, Trump said, “It’s a shame. I just hope it ends quickly.” He also said, “I know both countries, and I want them to work it out.” That means he doesn’t really want to step in and help — he wants India and Pakistan to fix it themselves.

What Did the US Government Do?

One US leader, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, has talked to top people from India and Pakistan. But The Vocal News reports that the U.S. is not leading any big peace talks like it used to. Before, American presidents helped both countries calm down during fights. Now, that is not happening.

Why Isn’t the US Doing More?

There are a few reasons:

  • Trump doesn’t like to get involved in other countries’ problems unless it helps the U.S.

  • He prefers using money and power instead of teamwork.

  • He likes India’s Prime Minister Modi more than he likes Pakistan’s leaders.

  • He doesn’t see anything in the Kashmir issue that would help the U.S. in return.

That’s why he is not trying very hard to bring peace between India and Pakistan.

What Is Kashmir, and Why Do India and Pakistan Fight Over It?

Kashmir is a beautiful place in the mountains. A long time ago, when India and Pakistan became separate countries in 1947, both said Kashmir should belong to them.

Since then, they have had 3 big wars and many small fights over it.

Kashmir is now divided:

  • India controls part

  • Pakistan controls part

  • China controls a small part too

The border between India and Pakistan in Kashmir is called the Line of Control.

What Did The US Do Before?

In the past, the United States helped stop fights over Kashmir. For example:

  • In 1999, US President Bill Clinton helped stop a war.

  • In 2019, US Secretary Mike Pompeo helped calm down both sides after another big fight.

But now, with Trump, the US is not trying as hard.

Who Else Is Trying to Help?

Since the U.S. isn’t doing much, other countries like Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE might help.
Qatar has already talked to leaders in India and Pakistan. They say they want to help bring peace. But it’s hard, because Pakistan is in a big money problem, and may not listen easily.

What’s Happening Now?

India said its airstrikes were to stop terror groups in Pakistan after Indian tourists were killed. Pakistan said 31 of its civilians died and promised to strike back. Their Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said, “We are brave people and we won’t back down.”

People all over the world are now watching. Everyone is worried the fight could get worse.

Final Words

The Vocal News says that this situation shows how the world is changing. America used to be the leader in stopping fights between countries. But now, especially with Trump, the U.S. is not doing that much.

Instead, India and Pakistan may need to solve this problem on their own — or get help from other countries.
