In September 2024, India’s Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw unveiled the prototype of the Vande Bharat sleeper train. The first Vande Bharat sleeper is anticipated to be ready by January 2025, and it will operate between New Delhi and Srinagar.
 

New Delhi-Srinagar Vande Bharat: Indian Railways is steadily moving towards modernization. In 2019, the Vande Bharat Express train was launched, becoming the fastest train in India. Previously, this title was held by the Delhi-Bhopal Shatabdi. Since 2019, a total of 60 Vande Bharat trains have been launched by September 14, 2024, covering more than 280 districts across 24 states and union territories.

The fare for Vande Bharat trains is typically higher than regular AC trains. Now, Indian Railways is set to introduce a sleeper version of the Vande Bharat Express, which is expected to be operational by next year. The first Vande Bharat sleeper will run from New Delhi to Srinagar. Let’s take a look at the route, fare, and other important details.

Vande Bharat Sleeper from Delhi to Srinagar

In September 2024, India’s Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw unveiled the prototype of the Vande Bharat sleeper train. The first Vande Bharat sleeper is anticipated to be ready by January 2025, and it will operate between New Delhi and Srinagar. This train will be part of the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL) project. The 800-kilometer journey between Delhi and Srinagar will be completed in under 13 hours. According to a senior railway official, the train will initially run from New Delhi to Srinagar, with plans to extend the service to Baramulla in the future.

Route of the Vande Bharat Sleeper

The New Delhi-Srinagar Vande Bharat sleeper will make stops at several key stations along the route. Starting from New Delhi, the train will halt at Ambala Cantt Junction, Ludhiana Junction, Kathua, Jammu Tawi, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra, Sangaldaan, and Banihal before reaching Srinagar. The train will depart from New Delhi at 7 PM and arrive in Srinagar by 8 AM the next day. Passengers will have the option to choose from three types of coaches: AC 3-Tier (3A), AC 2-Tier (2A), and AC First Class (1A).

Fare for Vande Bharat Sleeper

As for the fare, the Vande Bharat Sleeper from New Delhi to Srinagar is expected to have ticket prices starting at ₹2,000 for AC 3-Tier. The fare for AC 2-Tier is estimated to be ₹2,500, while AC First Class tickets are likely to cost around ₹3,000.
