Who is Gamliyal Hembrom? Ex-Teacher & Football Enthusiast Set to Challenge Hemant Soren in Barhait!
New Delhi, October 28, 2024: In the run-up to the Jharkhand Assembly elections, the Bharatiya Janata Party has declared its second list of candidates with the name of Gamliyal Hembrom to take on Chief Minister Hemant Soren in Barhait. This is the final list of BJP, which has a total 68 candidates. The list includes the name of Vikas Mahto who will contest from Tundi and Gamliyal Hembrom from Barhait, who will also be contesting, as Hemant Soren, the current chief minister of Jharkhand.
Who is Gamliyal Hembrom?
Hembrom, who is formerly a para-teacher who had quit his job in 2019 to enter into the political arena, is from Barhait. Well-connected with sports and more particularly football, Gamliyal Hembrom has arranged some big football tournaments in the region, attracting both local and foreign players. He had fought the Barhait Assembly seat in 2019 on the ticket of AJSU and could manage only 2,573 votes.
His personal life also depicts his political commitment. His wife, Vinita Tudu, is an active political figure and has won the position of head of the Khairwa Panchayat twice consecutively. The couple's involvement in politics reflects their shared commitment to their community.
The Barhait Seat: A Political Battleground
The Barhait seat is crucial for the BJP. Hemant Soren had won here with a massive margin in 2019 by defeating BJP's Simon Marandi by more than 25,000 votes. This time around, with Hembrom being the BJP contender, the party aims to secure a strong foothold in Soren's stronghold.
The good alignment of BJP in Jharkhand has sharpened the fight. Allotted 10 seats of AJSU, one seat of LJP, and two seats of JD (U) of Janata Dal. The polling in total 37 constituencies at Barhait on November 20; result will come out on 23rd of November.
Election Dates and BJP's Strategy
In Jharkhand, elections will be held in two phases. On 13th November, a total of 43 seats will go for polls, while the remaining 38, including the Barhait seat, will cast their votes on 20th November. The BJP, looking towards strengthening its positions in the state, is now going to concentrate much more on the local candidates and regional issues on which voters can connect more closely.
With Gamliyal Hembrom-a canditate familiar to the Barhait region and its challenges-the BJP expects to be able to gain local support while it also tries to draw attention to Soren's performance. His background is sports and community-oriented in nature, providing a different kind of profile that the BJP hopes will resonate well with the constituency of Barhait.
