A 27-year-old man from Noida, Chinmay Sharma, tragically passed away due to altitude sickness while on a solo bike trip to Leh, Ladakh. Chinmay, who worked at a digital marketing agency in Noida, was the only son of his parents, who reside in Muzaffarnagar.

According to a report by the Times of India, Sharma embarked on his journey on August 22. As he reached Leh, which is situated at an altitude of approximately 3,500 meters (11,482 feet), he began to experience symptoms of altitude sickness. Altitude Sickness in Leh-Ladakh

Altitude sickness, also known as Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS), is a common concern in high-altitude regions like Leh-Ladakh. This condition occurs when the body struggles to adjust to the lower oxygen levels at high altitudes. Symptoms can include headaches, nausea, dizziness, and difficulty breathing. To minimize the risks, it is crucial to acclimatize properly, stay hydrated, avoid overexertion, and consult with a doctor about necessary precautions.

Precautions for Traveling to Leh-Ladakh

  • Tourists visiting Leh should spend at least 48 hours acclimatizing to the environment before venturing to higher altitudes, such as Khardung La and Pangong Lake.
