In a bid to alleviate traffic congestion in Noida, the Noida Authority has initiated the construction of two new underpasses on the Greater Noida Expressway. The Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the project is currently being prepared, with plans to send it to IIT Roorkee for approval within the next 10 days, according to officials. Following approval, the department will proceed with the tendering process. The estimated cost for the construction of these two underpasses is approximately ₹180 crore.

An official from the Noida Authority shared that the first underpass will be constructed near Jhatta village, providing connectivity between sectors 145, 146, 155, and 159. This underpass will cost around ₹87 crore. Additionally, another underpass will be built near Sultanpur village, which will serve sectors 128, 129, 132, and 108.

Proposal to Be Sent to IIT Roorkee for Approval

Officials have stated that the DPR for both underpasses is nearly complete and will soon be presented to the CEO for final approval. Once approved, the proposal will be sent to IIT Roorkee for further review. After receiving clearance from IIT Roorkee, the tendering process will commence to initiate the construction.

Current Smaller Underpasses Causing Traffic Jams

Currently, small underpasses exist in these areas, which often result in traffic jams. To address this issue, the Noida Authority has planned to construct four-lane underpasses to improve traffic flow. Once completed, these new underpasses are expected to significantly reduce congestion for commuters.

Three Underpasses Built in the Past Two Years

Over the last 1.5 to 2 years, the Noida Authority has successfully constructed three new underpasses on the Greater Noida Expressway, located in sectors 96, 142, and 152. These underpasses have enhanced connectivity for residents in the surrounding villages and sectors.

Box Pushing Technology Used for Construction

The construction of these underpasses employed the box pushing technique, which allows for the work to be carried out without halting traffic on the roads above. However, in some cases, roads built using this method have subsided, causing temporary traffic disruptions on the Greater Noida Expressway.

These new underpasses, once completed, are expected to greatly benefit the local communities and ease traffic movement across the Greater Noida Expressway.
