Gmail Scam Alert, Cybercriminals Targeting Users

In the virtual world, security in cyberspace has become a growing issue with new instances of cybercrime surfacing daily. The most recent one is a new Gmail scam alert, which brings into reality that cyber hackers are using Gmail for stealing people's personal information. Here's what you need to know to protect yourself from this threat.

The Gmail Scam: How It Works

Just recently, cybersecurity experts at Check Point discovered a big Gmail scam. This is yet another hacking scam where people create fake Gmail IDs and impersonate genuine firms in order to push users into opening malware-infected attachments. These attachments host a malicious bug called **RAT-MANTIS Stealer**, which allows hackers to steal information from your device. The attackers mostly attempt to provoke recipients of the email by telling them that they have broken copyright laws on their social media account and urgently need to remove the violation. They ask you to download a file; therefore, this malware starts functioning once it opens.

How to be Safe

This scam targets people of Europe, Asia, and the USA with spams of such fraudulent e-mails of fake companies. The maximum scams happen in the entertainments, media, technology, and software industries, which constitutes 70% of such scams. So, if someday you get hold of such an e-mail, then stay very alert. Avoid downloading files, and do not click on any dubious links. If you find them to be several, delete them right away before it is too late and perhaps infects your device with this malware. Because the RAT-MANTIS bug can seriously compromise your personal data, always look out for such threats and practice safe web browsing.
