Mule account holder caught in Rs 53 lakh Tamil Nadu online trading scam

Tamil Nadu Cyber Crime Police have arrested N Anvarsha, a 27-year-old man, for his involvement in a Rs 53 lakh online trading scam.

Tamil Nadu Cyber Crime Police arrested a 27-year-old man from Kerala identified as N Anvarsha for his involvement in an online trading scam that duped a teacher from Madurai to the tune of Rs 52.6 lakh. According to police, Anvarsha is alleged to have operated as a mule account holder as a first layer for the scam. This shocking fraud that has seen many of the gullible Tamil Nadu victims is against the background of growing investment schemes and demands greater vigilance in its wake.

The police investigation reveals that Anvarsha had opened a bank account under the name of a scrap company called "Zerv." This account was used to route the defrauded money, which the suspect then transferred through various channels. Police recovered several crucial items from his possession, including mobile phones, SIM cards, bank account passbooks, and ATM cards, which were all allegedly linked to the scam.

According to the police, the victim, a teacher from Madurai aged 34 years, responded to an advertisement on Facebook promising high returns from online investments. Believing it to be a legitimate offer, the teacher gave away huge amounts of money into several bank accounts raised by the fraudsters. Realizing the modus operandi was a fraud, the victim lodged a complaint at the cyber crime police station in Madurai District that led to the arrest of Anvarsha.

This is one of many such fraudulent online investment scams on the rise, but more often than not propagated on social media, starting from Facebook. In a large-scale scam like this one, mule accounts would help fraudsters to masquerade their identity in hiding, making it almost impossible for the authorities tracing them. The Tamil Nadu Cyber Crime Police are putting a great effort into tracing masterminds behind this fraud.

The police have warned the public to be cautious when dealing with online investment opportunities, especially those that promise returns that are too good to be true. The case is still under investigation, and more arrests may follow as authorities continue to uncover the details of this online trading scam.
