Bangladesh Star Shakib Al Hasan's Bowling Action Under Investigation!
Bangladesh cricket star Shakib Al Hasan is finding himself in a bit of a pickle, as the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has requested an investigation into his bowling action. Currently playing for Surrey in the County Championship, Shakib's troubles are starting to pile up!
The ECB's call for scrutiny follows reports from umpires during a recent match regarding Shakib’s bowling style. In a gripping contest against Somerset in September, the 37-year-old bowler took nine wickets. This marked his return to the County Championship for the first time since 2010-11, filling a gap left by other spin stars like Will Jacks and Dan Lawrence due to national duty.
Despite his impressive performance, which included bowling over 63 overs in that match, Shakib couldn’t prevent Surrey from suffering a 111-run defeat, resulting in their failure to secure a third consecutive championship title. Interestingly, not a single delivery from him was called a no-ball, even though concerns about his bowling action were raised.
While Shakib hasn’t been suspended from play, discussions are underway for him to undergo testing at an approved venue, likely in the coming weeks. This is a significant moment in Shakib’s illustrious two-decade career, as it’s the first time his bowling action has come under investigation. Throughout his international journey, he has amassed an impressive record with 712 wickets from 447 matches, including 246 wickets in 71 Test matches.
Currently, Shakib's international cricket career hangs in a precarious balance. Just last month, he withdrew from the Test squad for the series against South Africa, citing safety concerns. To add to the intrigue, he has also served as a Member of Parliament in the Awami League-led government, which faced a significant setback in July due to student protests.
