Tiger Fan's Tumble: Bangladesh Super Fan Roby Hospitalized After 'Illness' Drama During Kanpur Test – Assault Rumors Debunked!
Kanpur – A Bangladeshi cricket fan, Roby, who is a well-known super fan for his team and often dresses in a tiger costume, was hospitalized after "falling ill" while watching the second Test match between India and Bangladesh at the Green Park Stadium. Initial reports suggested that Roby had been involved in a physical altercation, as he briefly mentioned being punched during an altercation. However, later statements clarified that no such incident took place.
Roby, who was seated in stand C, was seen in distress and had to be carried out of the stadium by local authorities. During an initial interaction with the media, he indicated he had been struck in the abdomen. However, from his hospital bed, Roby released a statement clarifying that he simply felt unwell and was not assaulted.
"I fell ill, and the police brought me to the hospital. I am feeling much better now," Roby said in a video clip from the hospital. He confirmed his identity and that he had come from Bangladesh to support his team.
Abhishek Pandey, ACP (Kalyanpur), also confirmed that Roby received immediate medical assistance and dismissed earlier rumors of an assault. “During the Test match, one of the spectators, known as Tiger, suddenly fell ill. He was picked up by the police and sent to the medical team for treatment. There is no truth to the assault claims; he may have simply taken a fall,” Pandey explained.
Earlier, officials from the Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association stated that when Roby was first brought out of the stands, he appeared to be in pain and nearly fainted. He was provided a chair but collapsed before being taken to the hospital.
The first day of the Test match ended early due to rain, with Bangladesh posting a score of 107/3. They had already lost the opening Test by a significant margin, an innings and 280 runs.
While initial confusion surrounded the incident, it has now been resolved as a health issue rather than an assault, with the fan recovering under medical supervision.
