It's Vinod Kambli who was once a famous cricket and childhood friend of Sachin Tendulkar but today is facing serious health problems besides financial struggles. Earlier in life, he had huge recognition in cricket with considerable rewards. Today, the former cricketer has his source of income from the BCCI pension.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah recently narrated a very interesting experience that happened with Kambli:. In an event for cricket held in Chennai, Shah interacted with a former cricket player. While reminiscing about his encounter with the former cricket player, Shah said that he anticipated Kambli mentioning his happiest moment during the cricket game, like double century scored or victory over significant players. Instead, Kambli shocked him by saying, "Sir, I've beaten many big players, we won and broke many records, but today, I'm happiest when I teach young cricketers how to play off the backfoot."

This statement by Kambli left Shah in awe. Despite all ups and downs in his life, Kambli's passion for mentoring young talent stands as his greatest joy.

Vinod Kambli, who was a player of more than 100 One-Day Internationals and 17 Test matches for India, had always been a promising career player. After his last Test match, which was in 1995 and his last ODI was way back in 2000, his life had diverted from that of his childhood mate, Sachin Tendulkar, who becomes a cricketing legend for the world. Today, though his story is one of strife, his desire to go back to the game as a coach gives him much happiness.
