Kolkata: 'Such A Scam'! Techie Shares Picture Showing Shocking Water Leakage in Rs 1.5 Crore Apartment

Ripudaman, a civil engineer based in Kolkata, recently vented his frustration over water leakage in his Rs 1.5 crore highrise apartment.

Kolkata: Despite the steep real estate prices, it appears that the quality of housing, particularly in metropolitan cities, remains a concern. Kolkata’s New Town area, known for its modern infrastructure, is facing similar issues. Ripudaman, a civil engineer based in Kolkata, recently vented his frustration over water leakage in his Rs 1.5 crore highrise apartment.

Ripudaman shared a photo of the leakage on the X platform, stating, “My room in a 1.5CR apartment on the 5th floor of a 16-story building is leaking water. These expensive buildings are such a scam bro! The civil engineer inside me can’t comprehend this.”

Although Ripudaman did not disclose the name of the building or complex, it is evident that the highrise is located in New Town, Kolkata’s prominent IT hub, which hosts several highrises and apartment complexes.

Social Media Reactions

The post quickly garnered attention on social media, sparking various reactions. Some users speculated on the possible cause of the leakage, while others shared similar experiences. One user commented, “Might be a leakage in the floor above you. Happened to us. Upper floor had a leakage in the pipe, and this started happening. If not fixed, drops will start falling slowly. Best is to have a standalone house.”

A different comment read, “You would probably burn your degree if you see the condition of the builder floors in Faridabad.”

Another comment highlighted a broader issue: “Unfortunately, this is what is happening in most places. The material they use is not of premium quality though they charge a premium for the apartments.”

A user suggested a practical solution: “Get the upper guy’s apartment pipe fixed. He/She may have even paid more than this due to the floor rise price increase!”

Broader Implications

This incident has sparked a debate about the disparity between the high cost of living in metropolitan areas and the subpar construction quality in expensive buildings. It highlights how developers may be compromising on construction standards to maximize profits, leading to dissatisfaction among homeowners who have invested significantly in their properties.

Ripudaman’s experience underscores the importance of ensuring quality construction in real estate, particularly in premium-priced apartments, to meet the expectations and needs of residents. The issue calls for more stringent regulations and oversight to prevent such incidents and ensure that buyers receive value for their investment.
