Mumbai displayed a commanding performance on the opening day of the Irani Cup 2024 against the Rest of India at the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow. Led by captain Ajinkya Rahane, who remains unbeaten on 86, the Mumbai team closed Day 1 with 237 runs for the loss of 4 wickets.

After losing the toss, Mumbai's start was shaky, with openers Prithvi Shaw (4) and Ayush Mhatre (19) departing early. Wicketkeeper Hardik Tamore followed suit, dismissed for a duck by Mukesh Kumar. However, the experienced duo of Ajinkya Rahane and Shreyas Iyer steadied the innings, with Iyer scoring 57 from 84 balls, including 2 sixes and 6 fours.

Sarfaraz Khan further strengthened Mumbai’s innings, remaining unbeaten on 54 from 88 balls by the end of play. Together, Rahane and Sarfaraz guided the team through the day, setting up a strong foundation for the next session.
