PM Modi Honoured with Dominica’s Highest National Award for Leadership During

PM Modi was awarded Dominica’s highest national honour at the India-CARICOM Summit 2024, in recognition of his leadership during COVID-19. The award highlights India’s selfless assistance and the strengthening of India-Dominica relations.
 

At the historic India-CARICOM Summit 2024, Prime Minister Narendra Modi received the Dominica National Award of Honour, the highest national distinction of the Caribbean island nation. This prestigious recognition, presented by Dominica's President Sylvanie Burton, marks PM Modi as the first Indian leader to be awarded this honor.

The award is a gesture of gratitude from Dominica's government and people for India’s selfless assistance and collaboration during the COVID-19 pandemic. Prime Minister Modi's leadership in securing medical aid and support for Dominica during the crisis was acknowledged, highlighting the importance of global partnerships in challenging times.

During the award ceremony held at the Marriott Hotel in Georgetown, PM Modi expressed his heartfelt thanks to President Burton, Prime Minister Dr Roosevelt Skerrit, and the people of Dominica. He also lauded Dominica’s efforts in environmental preservation and its resilience in the face of climate challenges, emphasizing India’s commitment to strengthening bilateral relations.

The award ceremony was attended by five CARICOM leaders, including Prime Ministers from Antigua and Barbuda, Saint Lucia, Grenada, Barbados, and Guyana’s President Dr Irfaan Ali. In his speech, Prime Minister Skerrit highlighted the enduring partnership between India and Dominica, acknowledging India’s support during the COVID-19 crisis, which included crucial donations in 2021.

PM Modi also reiterated the importance of global action on climate change and commended Dominica’s efforts as a model for smaller nations. The Dominica National Award of Honour is reserved for individuals who have made significant contributions to society, and this recognition underscores the shared values of democracy, resilience, and unity between India and Dominica.
