As the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024 prepares to kick off, former cricketers Wasim Jaffer and Michael Vaughan have taken their friendly rivalry to social media. In a playful exchange, Jaffer expressed his belief that the Australian cricket team is under more pressure than India ahead of the opening Test in Perth.

Jaffer pointed out that Australia has not beaten India in Test matches in over 10 years, and with back-to-back home losses, the pressure on the Australian team is mounting. “If they lose one more, heads are going to roll,” he posted on X (formerly Twitter). Jaffer emphasized that Australia has a few aging superstars, and if they fail again, it might be their last chance to challenge India in a Test series.

On the other hand, Michael Vaughan, the former England captain, responded with a sharp reminder that India also has much at stake. "Of course, India has something to lose. They’ve just been whitewashed at home and can’t afford another heavy defeat," Vaughan wrote, highlighting the pressure on India after their disappointing home series loss.

India heads into the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024 without captain Rohit Sharma for the opening Test, as Jasprit Bumrah takes on the role of the team’s captain. Rohit is expected to return for the remaining matches. Despite their recent challenges, India has done well in previous series against Australia, even winning two successive series in Australia.
