Hemoshree Bhadra, a Kolkata-based model who claims the title of Miss Kolkata 2016, found herself embroiled in controversy after her outfit during a visit to a Durga Puja pandal in Kolkata attracted widespread criticism on social media. Bhadra wore a cleavage-revealing crop top, which many deemed inappropriate for the religious occasion.
 

Bhadra shared photos on Instagram, where she posed with two friends at the Durga Puja pandal. One friend wore a black gown with a thigh-high slit, while the other sported an orange mini dress paired with knee-high boots. The group’s attire quickly drew criticism on social media platforms like X (formerly Twitter), where users labeled the outfits “indecent” and “vulgar,” claiming they disrespected the sanctity of the religious event.

One user commented, “Call me old-fashioned, but this is just ridiculous,” while another questioned, “Isn’t it common sense to dress modestly at a temple?” Activist Deepika Bhardwaj also shared the now-viral image, sparking further debate. Some users speculated whether the image was altered, while others called for stricter dress codes at religious sites to avoid similar controversies.
