Ex Bangladesh PM Sheikh Hasina In DeepTrouble! Court Issues Arrest Warrant for Crime Against Humanity

Bangladesh's International Crimes Tribunal has issued arrest warrants against exiled former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and 45 Awami League leaders for alleged crimes against humanity.

Dhaka: On October 17, the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) in Bangladesh issued arrest warrants against exiled former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and 45 prominent Awami League leaders, including former ministers and officials. The warrants were issued in connection with alleged crimes against humanity committed during the July-August uprising.

Sheikh Hasina, who fled to India after being ousted by a student-led revolution, now faces charges related to massacres, killings, and crimes against humanity. The tribunal's chairman, Justice Md Golam Mortuza Majumdar, passed the order after the prosecution filed two petitions seeking the arrest of the accused. Chief Prosecutor Muhammad Tajul Islam confirmed the decision, stating that the court has ordered Hasina's arrest and that she must appear in court by November 18.

Islam emphasized Hasina’s key role during the uprising, alleging her leadership in the events that led to widespread violence and human rights abuses. The list of individuals facing charges includes former ministers Obaidul Quader, Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, Hasan Mahmud, and Anisul Huq.
