Confirming the report, officials said the blast occurred in the Nine Elms area of central London. The police are investigating a suspicious package that was found near the embassy.

In a statement on social media platform X, the Metropolitan Police confirmed the incident. "We are aware of an ongoing situation near the US Embassy in Nine Elms. As a precaution, the area has been secured, and officers are investigating a suspicious package.".

The busy area around the embassy was evacuated, with some people initially held inside the building for over 30 minutes before being allowed to exit. Several employees remain inside as the investigation continues.

The US Embassy, meanwhile issued its take on the matter via its X account, saying, "Local authorities are investigating a suspicious package outside the US Embassy in London. The Metropolitan Police are on site, and Ponton Road has been closed as a precaution."
