Japanese Man Sleeps Only 30 Minutes Daily for 12 Years to Extend Lifespan, Sparks Global Interest
This unconventional sleep regimen has recently gone viral, drawing global attention.
TOKYO — In a remarkable display of human endurance, a Japanese man has been sleeping just 30 minutes a day for the past 12 years, claiming it has enhanced his lifespan and overall health. This unconventional sleep regimen has recently gone viral, drawing global attention.
According to the South China Morning Post, Daiki Hori, a Japanese businessman, has adopted this extreme sleep schedule to potentially double his lifespan. At 40 years old, Hori has trained his body and mind to function optimally on minimal sleep, using the technique to enhance his productivity and focus.
"Sleeping just 30 minutes has significantly improved my work efficiency. As a commercial entrepreneur, I believe quality sleep is more crucial than long hours of sleep. For those like me, who require constant concentration at work, high-quality sleep is preferred over extended sleep periods," Hori stated.
Local Japanese television recently featured Hori in a reality show, observing him for three days. During the show, Hori slept only 26 minutes each day yet remained highly energetic, engaging in routine activities such as eating breakfast, working, going to the gym, and participating in hobbies. His remarkable vitality surprised viewers.
The trend has gained traction on Google, with significant interest in various regions. Searches for this phenomenon have been notably high in Chandigarh (100%), Tripura (98%), Bihar (60%), Uttar Pradesh (60%), Delhi (52%), and Karnataka (48%).
Hori has also established the Short Sleepers Training Association in Japan since 2016 to share his sleep strategy with others. To date, he has trained over 2,100 individuals to become ultra-short sleepers.
However, medical experts recommend 6-8 hours of sleep for optimal health, warning that insufficient sleep can lead to increased blood pressure, negative thinking, and overall health issues. They emphasize that adequate sleep is crucial for both mental and physical well-being.
In a related case, 80-year-old Thai Ngoc from Vietnam has reportedly not slept for 60 years since contracting a fever in 1962. Despite various treatments, his inability to sleep persists.
Doctors advise that while skipping a meal occasionally may be manageable, consistent and adequate sleep is essential for good health. They caution that lack of sleep can lead to long-term health problems, including lethargy, stress, headaches, and muscular strain.
Hori's unconventional approach continues to intrigue and inspire those curious about the limits of human endurance and health.
