40 North Korean Soldiers Killed in Ukraine-Russia Conflict
The news of North Korean troops being stationed on Russian soil has led some of the senior Ukrainian commanders to question their capabilities, and thus, Ukraine does not need to be worried much about the North Korean presence. Additionally, The Sun reported that 18 North Korean soldiers attempted to escape before reaching their assigned posts, but were captured by Russian forces about 40 miles away. These soldiers were supposedly held captive in the forests of Kursk with no food or essential supplies. In reaction, the Ukrainian army issued an ultimatum to North Korean forces, advising them to surrender so that they would not be killed in battle. Ukrainian forces have also released a video showing a camp designated for North Korean soldiers, where some stationed troops are seen to have intentions to surrender.
During his conference at the press, the United States Secretary of State, Antony Blinken commented stating that about 10,000 North Korean troops remain in Russia with approximately 8,000 sent into the Kursk province. They have, so far, not approached forces from Ukraine. "They may play a role in the coming days but have not yet been engaged in Ukrainian forces," according to Blinken.
