Meta-Owned Instagram Unveils the Edits Video App and Expands Reels Time Limit
Instagram Edits App: Instagram introduces Edits, a new video editing app set to launch March 13, 2025. It provides a suite of creative tools, insights, and collaborative features. Instagram also extends Reels video length to three minutes, doubling the previous limit.

Meta-owned Instagram has revealed its upcoming video editing app, Edits, available for preorder now on the iOS App Store and scheduled to launch on March 13, 2025. Designed to rival CapCut, Edits is not just another editing tool—it aims to be a comprehensive creative platform for video creators.
Instagram head Adam Mosseri announced Edits on Threads, describing it as more than a standard video editor. “Today we’re announcing a new app called ‘Edits,’ for those of you who are passionate about making videos on your phone,” Mosseri wrote. The app includes a dedicated inspiration tab, a section for tracking early ideas, a higher-quality camera, robust editing tools, and the ability to share drafts with friends and collaborators. For creators who choose to share their videos on Instagram, Edits also offers powerful insights to help refine their approach.
Instagram Reels Time Limit Extended to Three Minutes
In addition to launching Edits, Instagram has rolled out a significant update to its Reels feature. Users can now upload videos up to three minutes long—double the previous limit of 90 seconds. This change reflects Instagram’s commitment to providing more creative freedom for its users.
Adam Mosseri announced the update in a Reel, explaining, “We’ve heard a lot of feedback from creators saying that 90 seconds is just too short. We hope that increasing the limit to three minutes will help you tell the stories you really want to share.”
With these announcements, Instagram continues to position itself as a leader in social media innovation and creator tools.
