Skoda Elroq Electric SUV Debuts Globally: 560km Range, Sleek Design & India Launch Expected!

Skoda Elroq Electric SUV:Skoda has officially unveiled its all-new electric SUV, the Elroq, marking the global debut of the brand’s 'Modern Solid' design language. This is Skoda’s first electric vehicle in the midsize SUV segment, sitting between the flagship Enyaq iV and the upcoming compact Epiq EV, which is set to launch in 2025. While it has already gone on sale in Europe, the potential for an India launch is currently under consideration, according to Skoda India.
- Impressive Range of Over 560km
- Positioned as an electric alternative to the Karoq
- Expected India launch in 2025
The Elroq offers an electric driving range of over 560km, providing a strong alternative to the traditional internal combustion engine (ICE) Karoq.
Skoda Elroq Exterior Design
The new ‘Modern Solid’ design language was first showcased in the 2022 Vision 7S concept. One of the standout features is the ‘Tech-Deck Face,’ replacing Skoda’s traditional butterfly grille with a sleek black panel spanning the front, incorporating segmented LED daytime running lights at both ends. The primary headlamps are positioned on the bumper, with vertical air vents extending from the headlamp clusters, adding a stylish touch. The front bumper also features robust plastic cladding, a faux silver skid plate, and active cooling vents that shut automatically to reduce air resistance.
The Elroq’s side profile maintains Skoda’s signature clean lines and smooth surfaces, complemented by a large glass area and multi-spoke wheels. The rear is reminiscent of the Enyaq, with similarly shaped taillights and the ‘SKODA’ lettering across the tailgate. The design is finished with a dual-tone bumper. Skoda boasts that the Elroq's clean surfaces contribute to an impressive drag coefficient of just 0.26.
Notably, the Elroq is Skoda’s first model to eliminate the traditional logo, opting instead for ‘SKODA’ lettering on the bonnet, tailgate, and steering wheel.
Skoda Elroq Interior and Features
The interior design of the Elroq is heavily inspired by its larger sibling, the Enyaq, featuring a winged dashboard layout. The centerpiece is a 13-inch infotainment touchscreen, with AC vents placed beneath it, followed by a set of physical buttons for key functions like driver assistance, drive modes, and climate controls. The cabin also includes a sleek digital instrument cluster and a redesigned steering wheel.
In terms of practicality, the center console includes a drive selector lever and cupholders. As a purpose-built electric vehicle, the Elroq offers smart in-cabin storage with up to 48 liters of space, while the boot provides 470 liters of capacity. Additionally, the Elroq emphasizes sustainability, using recycled materials in several interior trims, such as upholstery made from recycled PET bottles and nylon sourced from fishing nets.
Skoda Elroq Platform, Powertrain, and Range
The Elroq is built on the Volkswagen Group’s MEB platform, which also underpins models like the Audi Q4 and Volkswagen ID.3. The Elroq measures 4.49 meters in length, making it slightly larger than the Karoq (4.39 meters) but smaller than the Enyaq (4.65 meters).
Three powertrain options are available: the 50, 60, and 85 variants. The entry-level 50 version features a 52kWh battery and a 170hp motor, offering a range of over 370km (WLTP). The mid-tier 60 version is powered by a 59kWh battery and 204hp motor, with a range of over 385km. The top-tier 85 variant comes with a 77kWh battery and 285hp motor, delivering an impressive range of over 560km per charge. The 85 variant also boasts a 0-100kph time of 6.6 seconds and a top speed of 180kph.
In terms of charging, the 50 and 60 variants support charging at up to 145kW, allowing them to charge from 10% to 80% in just 25 minutes. The 85 variant supports up to 175kW, achieving the same charge in 28 minutes. An all-wheel-drive version of the 85 will be available in 2025, featuring an additional motor on the front axle.
Skoda Elroq India Launch
Skoda India is currently considering launching the Elroq in the country. If it does come to India, it will compete with models like the Tata Curvv EV, Hyundai Creta EV, and Maruti eVX. Skoda claims to have achieved price parity for the Elroq with the ICE-powered Karoq in Europe. If localized, the Elroq could be priced competitively in India as well. Before the Elroq arrives, Skoda plans to introduce the flagship Enyaq iV as a full import, and the company is also working on the new Kylaq compact SUV.
