Maruti Suzuki Baleno proved to be the best-selling car in February, with a whopping 48% YoY growth, recording 18,592 unit sales as compared to 12,570 units in the corresponding month of the previous year. The Swift, Alto, and WagonR hatchbacks ranked second, third, and fourth with sales of 18,412 units, 18,114 units, and 16,889 units respectively. Despite the high demand for SUVs, small cars, or hatchbacks, continued to dominate the sales chart.
Last year, Maruti Baleno received a mid-life update, featuring a 1.2L, 4-cylinder Dualjet K12N petrol engine with 90bhp power and a choice of 5-speed manual or 5-speed AMT gearbox. The car boasts a fuel efficiency of 22.35kmpl (MT) and 22.94kmpl (AMT), along with new suspension and bigger 14-inch disc brakes at the front axle.
The updated model also features major upgrades in terms of features, including a 9.0-inch SmartPlay Pro+ touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and Amazon Alexa support, an auto-dimming IRVM, a HUD (Heads-up Display), Suzuki Connect connected car tech, a 360-degree camera, automatic climate control, keyless entry and go, and an Arkamys surround sound system.
Maruti Suzuki is all set to introduce a Baleno-based SUV coupe called the Maruti Fronx, available in five trims: Sigma, Delta, Delta+, Zeta, and Alpha. The model will be offered with two powertrains: a new 1.0L, 3-cylinder turbo petrol Boosterjet and a 1.2L, 4-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol. The former delivers 100bhp with 147.6Nm, while the latter offers 90bhp power with 113Nm. The Maruti Fronx will come with three gearboxes to choose from: a 5-speed manual, a 5-speed AMT, and a 6-speed torque converter automatic.
