Here is how each brand fared in the first month of 2023 according to sales data for the six major two-wheeler OEMs in the market.
3,49,437 units for Hero MotoCorp
In comparison to December 2022, the world’s largest two-wheeler manufacturer had a fall of 11.35 percent in sales. Hero reported a drop in sales of 2.6 percent compared to its January 2022 sales number. It recently introduced the 110cc Hero Xoom scooter in India.
2,78,143 units were sold by Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India (HMSI)
Compared to the sales total it was able to publish in December 2022, HMSI claimed an increase of 19.3%.
The Japanese juggernaut did, however, reveal a fall of 11.8 percent when compared to its January 2022 sales figures. The electronic key-fob-equipped Honda Activa H-Smart scooter was introduced in India last month.
2,64,710 units belong to TVS Motor Company
TVS has recorded a 16.3% rise in sales compared to its December 2022 figure. The Hosur-based marque announced a significant gain of 57.8 percent when compared to its sales figures for the month of January in 2022. During the period of April to December 2022, TVS was one of the manufacturers whose market share in Indian two-wheelers increased.
1,40,428 Bajaj Auto automobiles
Bajaj Auto, situated in Chakan, increased sales 11.9 percent month over month in January 2023. Bajaj recorded a growth of 3.6 percent in sales versus January of last year. The Pulsar P150 is the most recent addition to Bajaj’s lineup of Pulsar vehicles, which has been continuously expanding with new variants.
67,702 Royal Enfield motorcycles
When it reported sales of 67,202 units in January 2023, RE not only showed a 13.2 percent rise over its December 2022 sales figures, but also outsold Suzuki. Royal Enfield has accomplished this three times in the previous four months, despite the Chennai-based brand selling larger and more expensive models than Suzuki. RE recorded a rise of 36.1% when compared to its January 2017 figure. The Super Meteor 650 cruiser was introduced by Royal Enfield last month in India. Suzuki Motorcycle India Private Limited: 66,209 units
Despite being outsold by RE, Suzuki was nonetheless able to post an increase in sales of 3.6% over December 2022. It was able to post an increase of 9.2 percent in sales compared to January 2022, when it sold 60,623 units.
