BMW X5 M and X6 M competition: Latest performance monster

Published Date:

After the recent debut of the updated X5 and X6, BMW has unveiled the top-tier model X5 M and X6 M Competition, which include sophisticated technology, aggressive design features, and modest hybrid capabilities.

Powertrain: New X5 M and X6 M Competition

The modified 4.4-liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine that powers the high-performance X5 M and X6 M Competition produces 750Nm of torque between 1,800 and 5,800 rpm and 625PS at 6,000 rpm. BMW has added a 48-volt mild-hybrid assist to its high-performance cars for the first time. In this instance, the technology provides a momentary 12 PS and 200 Nm of torque power increase. A new iteration of the eight-speed M Steptronic automatic gearbox with Drivelogic, which offers three shift options in manual and automated modes, is mated to the engine.

In only 3.9 seconds, the new X5 M and X6 M Competition can accelerate from 0 to 100kph (62mph). 250kmph is the pair’s peak speed. A higher peak speed of 290kmph is provided via the optional M Driver package.

They also received a “newly modified version” of the company’s M xDrive all-wheel drive technology. This configuration works with a rear-axle active M differential. In the meanwhile, the M Sport exhaust system is standard on both SUVs.

Competition: New BMW X5 M and X6 M vehicles

The new X5 M and X6 M Competition include active roll stabilisation, modified adaptive M suspension, and electronically controlled dampers. BMW also made changes to the steering mechanism. The M Compound brakes are then connected to an integrated braking system that is unique to the current generation M.

The front and rear M light alloy wheels on the top-of-the-line Competition models are 21 and 22 inches in diameter, respectively. A set of forged alloy wheels, however, is a separate option. BMW also has new Jet Black solid finish wheels available.

Appearance and Interior: BMW X5 M and X6 M

The new X5 M and X6 M Competition have several exterior design updates. Simply told, there are new aggressive front and rear bumpers, a new black-painted grille with horizontal slats, M-spec exterior rearview mirrors, among other things. New matrix LED headlights with adaptive control and BMW Selective Beam are also included with the models. Moreover, the taillight of the X5 M Competition has X-shaped fiber-optic light components.

New carbon paddle shifters, fine-grain Merino leather upholstery, an M-spec leather steering wheel and seats, and other features can be found within. A single-piece curved glass panel with a 12.3-inch driver display and a 14.9-inch central information hub is also featured in the cockpit.

Cutting-edge technology: BMW X5 M and X6 M

The X5 M and X6 M Competition are equipped with a wide array of advanced driver support technologies from BMW. A unique feature of this system is the optional Parking Assistance Professional, which allows the driver to control the vehicle from up to 200 metres away using the My BMW app on an Apple iPhone.
