Electric cars are the future and early adoption of EVs is becoming increasingly important for the Indian market as pollution levels and fuel prices have been witnessing a rise in recent years.
However, apart from high-end products from MG and Hyundai, so far only Tata and Mahindra offer electric cars in the affordable range.
The good news is that Tata and Mahindra will launch five electric cars this year. Here is the list of upcoming Electric Cars.
The Mahindra eKUV100 has been in development for several years now and should finally hit the market this year. While the KUV100 hasn’t managed to attract many buyers, its electric sibling might do wonders for Mahindra with its low price. It will have a 15.9 kWh (kilowatt hour) battery and will provide a maximum range of 140 km.
The electric version of the Mahindra XUV300 is also coming and will compete with the Nexon EV and ZS EV.
Built on the automaker’s Mahindra Electric Scalable and Modular Architecture (MESMA) platform, the Mahindra eXUV300 will be offered in two variants.
It will pack a 60kWh battery propelling a 150kW electric motor and will offer a range of 300km.
Tata Tiago EV
The electric version of Tata Tiago is expected to launch in the second half of 2022. It will lock horns with the Maruti WagonR EV and the Mahindra eKUV100. It will come with a 21.5 kWh battery pack and will offer a range of 213 km.
Tata has plans to roll out an electric version of the Altroz. The car was first unveiled at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show and later at the 2020 Auto Expo in India. It will offer a range of up to 300 km and is likely to be positioned between the Tigor EV and the Nexon EV.
Tata Punch EV
The recently introduced Tata Punch has been off to a good start as its SUV traits, Harrier-like appearance and spacious cabin attracted many car buyers. Sharing its ALFA platform with the Altroz, the Tata Punch EV will offer a range of up to 300km.
