Global NCAP: Tata Nexon to Mahindra XUV-700- These Are The 10 Safest Cars in India

Car Safety has come forward Leaps and Bounds in the past few years, new regulations have been mandated that make ABS, EBD as well as dual air bags necessary for every car in the market to offer. With newer regulations yet to make the car safer for the occupants, here are 10 Made in India cars that have scored a brilliant score at their Global NCAP crash tests.

10.Tata Tiago, Tigor and Tigor EV

The face lifted Tiago and Tigor get a similar 4-star rating as the Mahindra Thar scored 12.52 points out of 17 as well. The Tata cars though drop below the Thar in the list, with just a 3-star child occupant safety rating – owing to the lack of ISOFIX anchorages – to the Thar’s four.

The standard models aside, Tata also earned a 4-star safety rating for the updated Tigor EV – the first Indian electric vehicle to be tested by Global NCAP. While lower than the conventional model – 12 points as against 12.52 The score still is commendable considering the changes EV conversion makes to the body structure of the car with additional weight as well as changes in center of gravity of the whole automobile.

 9. Mahindra Thar

Mahindra Thar is  built on a body that is hard to achieve safety out of, in the past as well . small length off roaders have been top heavy and prone to topple over , but with the New Thar Mahindra seems to have achieved the impossible. The Thar scores well enough 4 stars for adult as well as child occupant safety. The Thar get top of the line safety features like ABS, airbags EBD as well as a roll cage as standard across the range.

8. Toyota Urban Cruiser

The Vitara brezza in a Toyota disguise scored a well enough 4 star for adult occupancy and a 3 star rating for child occupancy, The GNCAP rated its body to be stable and capable of taking further load. The score is however a tad bit higher than that of its Sister the Vitara Brezza. The urban cruiser also is all set to receive an update that would increase its score even further.

7. Mahindra Marazzo

The first made in India Mahindra Marazzo performed way better than already available Indian people carriers like the Ertiga it scored a well enough 12.85 out of 17 in Adult occupancy and 22.22 out of49 in child occupancy. The score was due to amalgamation of safety features that were provided in the car, such as airbags, seat belt reminders, pre-tensioners, ABS as well as ISOFIX anchorages to boost up the child safety in the class.

6. Honda Jazz

Honda Jazz was also one of the latest vehicles, (although the vehicle itself is in a old format and is in a dire need of a facelift) tested and scored about 13.89 out of the 17. The report noted that the jazz structure was stable and capable of taking further load; however the Jazz lost points in protecting the passengers knee area, while offering marginal protection to the knees.

In child safety occupancy  was rated at about 3 stars , and lost points due to the lack of ISOFIX anchorages in the back, this also makes the jazz one of the highest rated hatchbacks in the market with about 4 start safety rating behind the Altroz

5. The XUV700

The XUV700 is an exemplar of how good offerings are produced in the market, the car offers every aspect necessary for a driver, and safety hasn’t been kept on the back foot either with the car scoring perfect 5/5 in adult occupancy and 4 stars in child occupancy. While the lower end variants get basic stuff the higher end variants get all the bells and whistles making it one of the safest cars available in the market.

4. Tata Nexon

The first Indian made car to walk away with a full on score of 5/5 in the safety rating. Although the car was initially rewarded 4 star rating but after a mild advancement the car was tested again and the car scored a well enough 5/5 stars. Although loosing scores in child occupancy with only three stars. All the models come as standard with 2 airbags, ISOFIX and ABS.

3. Tata Altroz

Currently the safest made In India car which score a whopping 16.13 out of 17 with 4 stars for adult occupancy and although it shares the platform with the punch it lost a score because the back rest of the car seat unlatched crushing the child dummy in the back. Standard kit across the model range remains to b e Airbags, Abs EBD rear parking sensors seat belt reminders and ISOFIX anchorages.

2. Mahindra XUV 300

Another offering form Mahindra to offer a5/5 stars for adult occupancy it falls one place short in the listing due to its faltering child safety providing. As a standard across all models the car gets Dual airbags, ISOFIX anchorages and seat belt reminders as well as rear parking camera. Of course the top tier models get other safety features as well such as 6 airbags, parking sensors all around tire pressure monitoring system.etc

The Tata punch offers brilliant safety features as standard and scores a pretty high and mighty score of 5 stars for Adult occupancy as well as 4 stars for child occupancy.  While Dual Airbags, ISOFIX anchorage seat belt reminders as well as ABS is standard across all variants. And the top tier models also get auto headlamps and wipers and amt variants also get low traction mode to aid over slippery surfaces.
