As CNG cars become more feature-rich and less of a compromise option, they are becoming increasingly popular among private purchasers in India. With models from companies like Maruti, Tata, and Toyota, the current surge of CNG versions for cars that never provided the option will continue beyond 2023.
Here is a list of the top CNG vehicles that we anticipate seeing in 2023.
Maruti Brezza CNG
A CNG kit was recently discovered in the Brezza, Maruti’s subcompact SUV. We assumed it may be released in the first half of 2023 because it looked to be at some sort of dealer yard. It will introduce a CNG option for the first time in a Maruti SUV.
The Brezza’s 1.5-liter petrol engine is the same one used in the Ertiga and XL6 MPVs, two vehicles that currently provide customers the option of a CNG kit. It’s expected to be restricted to the same-tuned five-speed manual gearbox alone.
Price range for the Brezza is between Rs. 7.99 lakh and Rs. 13.96 lakh. Its CNG trims are anticipated to cost Rs 1 lakh more than the standard petrol models.
CNG Toyota Hyryder
With its new Hyryder small SUV, Toyota has already confirmed the availability of the CNG option, and reservations have already started. The mild-hybrid, 1.5-liter petrol engine from Maruti that is also found in the XL6 and is still only offered in mid-spec G and S trims will be available.
The 1.5-liter petrol engine with strong-hybrid technology is the other available powerplant for the Hyryder SUV, and it already makes big promises with a stated fuel economy of close to 28kmpl.
The mild-hybrid manual S and G trims of Toyota’s small SUV are priced at Rs 12.28 lakh and Rs 14.34 lakh, respectively, and range in price from Rs 10.48 lakh to Rs 18.99 lakh. We anticipate that the same petrol-manual versions will cost Rs 95,000 more than the CNG ones.
Maruti Grand Vitara CNG
Given that both of these small SUVs have the same foundations as the Hyryder CNG, Maruti may think about releasing CNG versions of the Grand Vitara. The Grand Vitara has the same selection of engines as its Toyota rival.
The Grand Vitara is sold by Maruti for between Rs. 10.45 lakh to Rs. 19.65 lakh. The same petrol-manual variants are anticipated to cost Rs 95,000 less than the CNG ones.
Tata Altroz CNG
Following a successful launch in the CNG market in 2022, Tata will be anxious to increase its CNG selection. With its 1.2-liter, three-cylinder petrol engine on Tiago and Tigor, which generates 73 PS and 95 Nm, it already offers the CNG option (in CNG mode). The Altroz’s petrol versions also come with the same engine, and the premium hatchback may soon offer a CNG option as well. It is also rumoured to have the same power numbers and be restricted to the five-speed manual transmission.
The 1.5-liter diesel engine and turbocharged 1.2-liter petrol engine (110PS and 140Nm) are the Altroz’s additional powerplant choices (making 90PS and 200Nm).
Tata Punch CNG
The Nexon is now the brand’s best-selling model, followed by the Punch micro-SUV. The Punch is a possibility for CNG since it shares a 1.2-liter petrol engine with the Tiago and Tigor, which now provide it with the option. It is anticipated to only be paired with the five-speed manual shifter and to have the same tune for 73PS and 95Nm of torque (in CNG mode).
The Punch CNG mini SUV may cost Rs 90,000 more than the ordinary petrol models.
