How Kia 32 Carnival MPV Sparked controversy in Telangana?

Published Date:

All-white 32 Kia Carnival MPV created controversy in Telangana when it was gifted by the government to additional district collectors of the state at an event on Sunday.

The starting price of the MPV is Rs 24.95 lakh (ex-showroom) in India. It is available in five variants across three trims. The top-spec Limousine 7VIP variant costs Rs. 33.95.

The Kia Carnival MPVs cars was seen standing at the Pragati Bhavan before the event. The transport minister Puvvada Ajay Kumar flagged off the cars at an event.

“The vehicles, each costing around ₹30 lakh, were procured by the Telangana State Road Transport Authority on the instructions of the chief minister. The vehicles would help the additional collectors in carrying out extensive tours to the villages as part of their duty,” an official in the transport department said.

According to reports, these vehicles will help district collectors to visit their respective areas to monitor development work.

The additional district collectors required these luxury cars to perform their duties in their districts, Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao said. However, the political opponents have slammed the government for its decision.

Recently, Kia has rolled out a scheme called the Satisfaction Guarantee Scheme, under which the company promises to take its vehicles back from the customers within 30 days of purchase. The company refunds 95 percent of the total cost.
