India to receive 25,000 Electric Vehicles thanks to Uber and Tata Motors collaboration

Published Date:

The deployment of 25,000 XPRES-T EVs in Uber’s premium fleet will be accomplished through the signing of an Agreement with Tata Motors. Many cities, including Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Hyderabad, Bangalore, and Ahmedabad, will have these EVs operating on their roadways. The first 25,000 XPRES-T EVs will be delivered by Tata Motors this month, and the company will provide them to Uber in stages.

Upon the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding, Mr. Shailesh Chandra, MD of Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles and Tata Passenger Electric Mobility, said, “We are pleased to work with Uber, India’s top ridesharing platform, as part of our commitment to grow sustainable mobility in the nation.

It will speed up the adoption of green and clean personal ride sharing to provide clients our environmentally friendly EV travel experiences through Uber’s Premium Category service. Both customers and operators find the XPRES-T EV to be a very appealing option.

In July 2021, Tata Motors launched the “XPRES” brand specifically for fleet clients, with the XPRES-T EV serving as the brand’s first automobile. There are two range options for the all-electric sedan: 277 km and 315 km. Two battery packs of 25.5 kWh and 26 kWh are available, with charging times of 59 minutes and 110 minutes, respectively, from 0 to 80 percent. Any 15 A plug point can be used to typically charge an XPRES-T EV. The electric automobile is also compatible with quick charging.

Automatic climate control, electric blue highlights, zero tailpipe emissions, a single speed automatic gearbox, two airbags, and ABS with EBD are a few of the standout standard features in the XPRES-T EV. From its plant in Pune, Tata Motors has produced more than 50,000 EVs for the consumer and fleet markets.

The agreement is a significant step in the direction of Uber’s goal of delivering sustainable, shared mobility to India, according to Mr. Prabhjeet Singh, President of Uber India and South Asia. It is the biggest EV partnership between a carmaker and an Indian ride-hailing service to date. As we endeavour to create a sustainable future, it will accelerate the move to zero emissions on the Uber platform.

By collaborating with business partners who are driving the change, we are dedicated to doing our part to lower the obstacles to becoming electric.

Uber has pledged to using zero-emission vehicles in public transportation to make its entire fleet carbon-neutral by 2040.
