Since at least 2019, there have been rumours that the Indian motorcycle company Royal Enfield will release the Sherpa. According to the most recent information, a Sherpa could be included in the company’s ambitions to increase the 650cc product line in India. While the Royal Enfield Super Meteor 650 is scheduled to go on sale in the next day.
This predicted vehicle is most likely a lightweight, off-road-specific scrambler-style bike. The 650cc scrambler is believed to have already entered the road trial stage because the prototype has been seen riding both in the UK and India.
The Interceptor 650 platform serves as the foundation for the Sherpa, sharing its chassis and parallel-twin engine, despite a few alterations. The Continental GT 650 and Super Meteor 650 use the same engine. It generates 47 horsepower and 52 Nm and is mated to a 6-speed gearbox through a slipper clutch.
Spy photos of the test bike revealed that it had an upside-down fork suspension up front and dual shock absorbers at the back. The bike will be equipped with a two-in-one exhaust system to maintain its lightweight design. The device will also improve the bike’s overall look. The Royal Enfield Scrambler bike will have wire spoke wheels fitted with dual-sport tyres and is particularly intended for muddy roads. It will have a different sub-frame than the Interceptor.
In 2024, the Royal Enfield Sherpa 650 is scheduled to go on sale. It will be sandwiched between the Interceptor 650 and the incoming Super Meteor 650 in the lineup.
It’s interesting to note that Royal Enfield had previously referred to one of their models as the Sherpa. Financial Express claims that during the 1960s, the company offered a bike bearing the same name. The model back then came with a 173cc engine. In 1970, the bike was given the new name Crusader.
