Lamborghini will launch its First EV by 2030

Italian sports and Electric Vehicle manufacturer Lamborghini has approved an expansion programme for a long mooter 4th model line that includes the first battery-electric model.

The new model will take the form of a two-door four-seat grand tourer. According to the CEO of Lamborghini Stephan Winkelmann, it will appear in the market by 2030.

All you need to Know

According to the company CEO Stephan Winkelmann, though initial development work has begun, the final form of the new car has not been decided.

“This will be at least a 2+2 or four-seater,” Winkelmann was quoted as telling Autocar UK.

“We imagine a two-door car mainly at this moment, but we haven’t yet taken a final decision on the body style or the power output,” he added.

“There are two steps. One is the analysis of body style and volumes in this segment, and the other is the match we have with platforms in the Volkswagen Group to find the best solution,” Winkelmann explained, adding that the final decision on the specifications would be taken next year.

When asked what would be sales targets for new model, Winkelmann said it is too early to talk about sales targets.

“If we speak about a two-door four-seater, it will be something in between our current models. It’s not going to be the volumes of a super-sportscar, but it’s not going to be the [higher] volumes of the Urus [SUV],” he suggested.

According to the reports, Lamborghini wanted to use the new performance-focused, EV-specific PPE platform. However, it may use the SSP platform, as the vehicle’s launch is likely to take place closer to 2030. The SSP combines elements from the PPE and mainstream MEB platforms.

‘Direzione Cor Tauri’ roadmap

The new electric Lamborghini is the culmination of the Direzione Cor Tauri roadmap which has recently been announced by the company. This roadmap includes electrifying its product lines with plug-in hybrid powertrains by the end of 2024.
