The first airbag-integrated helmet prototype has been revealed by Italian firm Airoh.
According to reports, Autoliv, a Swedish business well-known for their expertise in airbag vests and inflatable motorbike solutions, helped design the new safety technology.

The integrated airbag in the helmet functions similarly to the dashboard airbag in a car. The airbag is electronically released from the helmet’s crown and other smaller portions of the outer shell when an impact is detected. According to Airoh, the risk of a skull fracture is cut in half when the airbag absorbs the majority of the impact. No other information, however, has been given.

Since 2020, the airbag helmet has been under testing. Additionally, Airoh is trying to include all the additional outside elements seen on a typical helmet. According to reports, the helmet had a difficult time meeting the ECE22.06 safety requirements.

There isn’t a set date for its introduction, although reports indicate that it may happen towards the beginning of the next year.
