Global NCAP conducted crash tests on many Indian cars in 2021. Few of them passed, while some failed to sail through the tests. From Mahindra XUV700 to Tata Punch, here’s a look at all the Made-in-India cars that passed the Global NCAP crash tests in 2021.
Mahindra XUV700
Mahindra and Mahindra’s flagship vehicle, the XUV700 underwent crash tests by Global NCAP shortly after its official price was revealed in November. Mahindra XUV700 scored full five stars for the protection of adult occupants and four stars for the child safety. Hence, the XUV700 is now on the elite list of the safest Indian cars such as the Mahindra XUV300 and Mahindra Thar SUV.
The XUV700 comes equipped with seven airbags, latest-generation Electronic Stability Program, cornering lights, a 360-degree camera, Blind View Monitoring, and a host of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems, such as Automatic Emergency Braking, Forward Collision Warning, Lane Departure Warning, Lane Keep Assist, High Beam Assist, Smart Pilot Assist, and more.
Tata Punch
The latest offering from Tata Motors, the Tata Punch SUV can be called as “small packet, big bang”. The Tata Punch passed the Global NCAP crash tests before its launch in October 2021. It scored 5-star rating for adult occupant protection and got 4-star rating for child occupant protection.
Tata Punch comes with several safety features including segment-firsts like Brake Sway Control. It comes fitted with Dual Airbags, Front Fog Lamp with Cornering Function, ABS with EBD and Corner Stability Control, Child Seat ISOFIX Anchor Points, Reverse Parking Camera, Perimetric Alarm System, Tire Puncture Repair Kit, Driver & Co-Driver Seat Belt Reminders. Brake Sway Control is one of the first features of the segment.
Tata Tiago and Tigor
Three models from Tata Motors passed the Global NCAP crash tests – Tata Tiago and Tigor. The Tiago hatchback and the Tigor sub-compact sedan got 4 stars for adult occupant protection in January this year.
Both the cars, which offer 2 front airbags as standard, scored three stars for child occupant protection.
Tata Tigor EV
Tigor EV was the first Indian electric car to be tested for safety ratings by Global NCAP. The Tigor EV, which hit the market in 2021 as India’s most affordable electric car, scored four stars in the crash test.
The Tata Tigor EV has been rated on its most basic safety specification, dual airbags as standard. In addition, the Tigor EV also offers other safety features like corner stability control, ABS with EBD and rear parking sensors.
Renault Triber MPV
The Renault Triber MPV underwent safety tests in May and scored a four-star rating for adult occupant driver and passenger safety. However, it did not perform well in the Child Safety Testas it showed signs of major injuries in the event of an impact.
The Renault Triber MPV comes with safety features such as ABS with EBD, dual airbags, rear parking sensors, child safety locks, speed alert warnings and seat belt reminders.
