While the market has been severely anticipating the mid size SUV launch from Maruti Suzuki, nothing but leaks from the company have surfaced to quench the anticipation. The car is being jointly developed by Maruti Suzuki and Toyota and unlike previously believed the pair of the mid size SUV’S would not be underpinned on Toyota’s TNGA-B platform rather the cars would be built upon Suzuki’s Global C platform. Toyota would still manufacture both the cars but the car would be based upon Suzuki’s platform. Suzuki to launch the car next month in the latter weeks while the Toyota Hydrer would be launched in 1st of July.
The global –C platform forms the basis of cars like the Vitara Brezza , Ciaz and newly introduced international S-cross and the current gen Vitara Brezza being sold overseas. the car would be powered by the new k 15c Dual Jet engine which is as of now powering the Ertiga the Xl6 as well as the new gen Brezza. The car would be offered with HYBRID tech to reduce carbon emissions and the tech would be source by Toyota, the tech would then be integrated with the K series engine by Suzuki Itself. the lower variants would be equipped with a mild HYBRID system while the upper variants would probably be equipped with strong Hybrid setups.
Chances of the Vehicle to be Exported Overseas
According to media reports by Autocar magazine there are chances that the car would be a global model. This would mean export to neighboring countries plus there are also chances of the car being shipped to Europe as an export replacement of the current Vitara on sale there. The Vitara being on sale there was introduced in 2015 and uses the same powertrain combination as well as as similar Hybrid tech with the K 15engine. Which likely would be carried over to the next gen model.
According to Autocar Magazine Vitara is a strong candidate for the new midsize SUV is the fact that it is based on the Global-C platform, the possibility of export from India to Europe, and also the fact that Maruti has resurrected past brand names – Baleno and XL7 (in Indonesia). To recall, Maruti Suzuki sold the second-generation Vitara as the Grand Vitara XL7 and the third-generation Vitara as the Grand Vitara in India, with the latter being brought in as an import.
Though there has been no confirmation about the name of the car its possible that the car might be named Vitara as the company has already dropped the Vitara moniker from its compact SUV the Brezza. While the name of the Suzuki car is still unknown its known that the Toyota’s version would be known as the Urban Cruiser Hydrer which would be launched on 1st of July
