The Indian vehicle market is rapidly getting electrified with most of the automakers gearing up to introduce their electric cars.
While the electric vehicle segment is known for high prices, country’s largest automaker Tata Motors is preparing to introduce affordable electric cars in the market soon.
Tata Motors has become the fastest growing name in the EV segment with the Tata Nexon EV being the best-selling electric car in the country.
Tata Motors working on three EVs
And now the automaker is working on electric versions of its small SUVs – Tata Punch, Altroz and Tiago.
Tata Tiago EV

The electric version of Tata Tiago is expected to launch in the second half of 2022. It will lock horns with the Maruti WagonR EV and the Mahindra eKUV100. It will come with a 21.5 kWh battery pack and will offer a range of 213 km.
Tata Altroz EV

Tata has plans to roll out an electric version of the Altroz. The car was first unveiled at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show and later at the 2020 Auto Expo in India. It will offer a range of up to 300 km and is likely to be positioned between the Tigor EV and the Nexon EV.
Tata Punch EV

The recently introduced Tata Punch has been off to a good start as its SUV traits, Harrier-like appearance and spacious cabin attracted many car buyers.
Sharing its ALFA platform with the Altroz, the Tata Punch EV will offer a range of up to 300km.
Tata Motors to expand EV portfolio
Tata Motors is looking to expand its electric vehicle range as it plans to manufacture 50,000 zero-emission vehicles by the next financial year (April 2022 to March 2023 period). The automaker aims to raise it to 1,25,000-1,50,000 units per year over the next two years.
Currently, Tata is the best-selling passenger electric vehicle brand in India, thanks to the Nexon EV, while it introduced the updated Tigor EV based on Ziptron technology last year.

Tata had earlier announced the setting up of a new standalone EV brand called TPEML with an investment of Rs 15,000 crore.
Tata Motors to introduce 10 EVs over the next 5 years
Under the new vertical, Tata will introduce 10 new electric vehicles over the next 5 years, which could include the return of the Nexon-based mid-size coupe and the Sierra. Tata Motos has plans to launch an electric vehicle under Rs 10 lakh.
Tata Nexon with longer range in the works
The company is also working on the new longer range version of the Tata Nexon as well as the Tiago Electric. It is being said that the new long range version of the Nexon will give a driving range of up to 400 km.

Apart from this, electric versions of the recently launched Tata Punch SUV and Altroz premium hatchback will also be launched in the market soon.
Driving range
Although there has been no official information about the driving range of these upcoming electric cars, but it is believed that due to the low price and small battery pack, these EVs will offer a driving range of up to 200Km.
To recall, Shailesh Chandra, Managing Director, Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Unit and Tata Passenger Electric Mobility Limited (TPEML) has confirmed that the company will launch one or two products every year in different price brackets.
