Tata Punch, Nexon and Altroz mileage improved, check details

Tata Motors, like its counterparts in the automobile industry, has revamped its complete range of cars with BS6 Phase II compliant engines. Notably, the Harrier and Safari received notable feature upgrades, while the remaining models, namely Tiago, Tigor, Punch, Nexon, and Altroz, solely received the updated engines. With the implementation of the new RDE-compliant engines, all of these cars now boast better fuel efficiency compared to their previous versions. The fuel efficiency gains range from 0.6 kmpl to 2.4 kmpl, depending on the specific model.

The fuel efficiency of Tata Motors’ compact cars’ petrol versions has seen a boost, with the Punch experiencing the highest increase of 1.13 kmpl, bringing its fuel efficiency to 20.1 kmpl. Other models also showed improvements, such as the Tigor with a 0.6 kmpl increase to 19.6 kmpl, Tiago with a 1 kmpl increase to 20.01 kmpl, Altroz with a 0.7 kmpl increase to 19.3 kmpl, and Nexon with a 0.75 kmpl increase to 17.1 kmpl.

To improve driveability, Tata Motors has made improvements to the 1.2-litre petrol engine that powers the Altroz and Punch, addressing the low-end power issue. The engine now delivers better performance, generating 86 bhp and 113 Nm of torque in both models. Additionally, apart from the standard 5-speed manual gearbox, the Punch is also available with a 5-speed AMT, while the Altroz offers a 6-speed DCT transmission option.

Despite previous speculations, Tata Motors has decided to retain the diesel-powered versions of the Altroz. As a result, the Altroz is currently the only hatchback in India that offers diesel-powered variants, following the discontinuation of the Hyundai i20 diesel. Tata Motors has also claimed a fuel efficiency improvement of 0.6 kmpl for the diesel Altroz, bringing its claimed fuel efficiency to 23.6 kmpl.

The Nexon diesel has also seen improvements in its fuel efficiency, with increases of 2.1 kmpl for the manual variant (23.2 kmpl) and 2.4 kmpl for the AMT variant (24.1 kmpl). The 1.5-litre diesel engine generates 90 PS of power and 200 Nm of torque in the Altroz diesel, while the Nexon diesel produces 115 PS of power and 260 Nm of torque.

In addition to updating their petrol and diesel engines, Tata Motors has also increased the warranty coverage on their cars and SUVs. The standard warranty period now offered on Tata Motors’ cars and SUVs is 3 years or 1 lakh km, whichever comes first. This is an improvement from the previous warranty period of 2 years or 75,000 km, whichever comes first, for all their cars and SUVs.
