As the competition in the three Row Mid Size SUV league rises Up Tata seems to being the pursuit of developing  petrol Variant of the safari. Tata lacks in the segment due to the unavailability of a petrol engine but as it seems it would not be so for long a the brand is in the pursuit of developing a new petrol powered safari as witnessed in road tests recently.

Previous Media Reports mentioned that petrol variants of Safari will be powered by a new in-house developed 1.5-litre 4-cylinder turbocharged unit. The 1.5-litre turbo petrol unit will be good enough to produce 150 bhp and 250 Nm of peak torque. The brand seems to be planning up ahead before the launch of the new Mahindra Scorpio N which would change the market demographics severely.

The car would have to be offered with manual transmission as well as automatic Torque Converter options to tackle the rising competition in the segment.
