As Ford packed its bags from the nation it left behind the very fundamentals of their run in India behind . their Manufacturing plants as the one in Sanand left behind without a throne a name to serve to .in such a jeopardy Tata came over and recently announced to takeover the facility and to heavily invest in to produce electric vehicles in the future.
As according to Reports its has come to surface that Tata is planning to invest about Rs 2000 Cr in the newly acquired plant to bring it up to spec to produce State of the art electric vehicles out of it.
Tata to take over the plant
The information was first brought to the surface by ET AUTO days after Tata unveiled its all-new Curvv concept. As of now Tata Motors manufactures Nexon EV at its Pune plant and Tigor EV at its Sanand plant, which is located nearby to the Ford manufacturing facility. Apart from Tigor EV, the already existing manufacturing plant of Tata Motors in Sanand, which was initially set up to produce the Nano, also is a manufacturing hub for its compact cars like Tiago and Tigor.
Tata to keep all the existing employees
Tata motors seemingly have come in correspondence with Ford to sketch out a deal where any of the existing employees would not be laid off ,while if the plant has been shut for some time they already would have been without work so ? Tata is in talks with the state government to settle a balanced incentive for the Ford India t acquire the plant. Even the state government seems happy with the change as it would encourage the conversion towards EV as well while motivating other brands to produce Ev in India as w
Sanand Manufacturing Plant
Brought to life in 2015, Ford Motor Company’s manufacturing assembly in Sanand provided employment to around 3,000 employees, all of whom will be retained by Tata Motors if it acquires this plant. Ford had invested about Rs 4,500 crores to set up this sprawling facility, which has the capacity of producing 2.4 lakh units of cars and 2.7 lakh engines every year.
Ford used to manufacture compact cars like Figo, Aspire and Freestyle in this manufacturing facility. After Ford india decided to leave the operations in the nation they shut off the manufacturing plant Since then, talks between Tata Motors and Ford India were on for shift of the ownership of the Sanand manufacturing facility .
