The demand for CNG cars in India has been on the rise and the brands are leaving no stone unturned in expanding their CNG portfolio in the country. We have already witnessed the launch of several CNG cars this year and there is more in store for the customers in the coming months. Let’s have a look at six CNG SUVs worth waiting for!
1. Tata Nexon CNG
One of the safest vehicles in the sub-4m Compact SUV segment, the Tata Nexon comes with two engine options – 1.2L turbo petrol and 1.5L turbo diesel. And now, Tata Motors is said to be launching the CNG version of its popular offerings – the Nexon, which is expected to get a 1.2L Bi-Fuel engine.
2. Maruti Suzuki Brezza CNG
In the sub-4m compact SUV segment, Maruti Suzuki Brezza competes with the likes of Hyundai Venue, Kia Sonet, Mahindra XUV300 and the Tata Nexon. This car is soon going to get a factory-fitted CNG kit. As per reports, the car can be the first CNG SUV to have an automatic gearbox. It is expected to be available in seven variants. Maruti Suzuki Brezza CNG will be powered by the same 1.5L K15C Bi-Fuel CNG engine, capable of delivering 87 bhp and 112 Nm of maximum torque.
3. Maruti Grand Vitara CNG
In Maruti’s line-up, the Grand Vitara is currently the costliest SUV and can soon come with a CNG powertrain. It will be powered by the same 1.5L K15C Bi-Fuel engine, which is expected to be mated with either manual or automatic gearbox options.
4. Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder CNG
Toyota recently confirmed that it wll launch the Urban Cruiser Hyryder CNG in India. It will be the first CNG midsize SUV once it hits the market. Maruti’s 1.5L K15C petrol engine will power the SUV and will churn out 90 bhp in the CNG mode. It will provide a claimed fuel economy of over 26 km/kg.
5. Tata Punch CNG
Tata Motors’ first micro-SUV in India, Punch will soon be offered in CNG version. It is expected to come with a 1.2L NA engine which will be mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox. The Punch CNG is expected to make its debut nexy year.
6. Kia Sonet CNG
Once the Kia Sonet gets a CNG powertrain, it will lock horns with Maruti Brezza CNG and the upcoming Nexon CNG. It is likely to get a 1.0L turbo engine. The Kia Sonet CNG is expected to arrive in India next year.
