Mahindra Group chairman Anand Mahindra is known for sharing witty as well as inspiring posts on Twitter. His posts catch a lot of attention of the Twitteratis and often go viral. This time, a 6-seater electric cycle made by a village youth with merely Rs 10,000 to Rs 12,000 has left Anand Mahindra as well as the netizens impressed. Mr Mahindra has touted it as suitable for global application.
He wrote on Twitter, “With just small design inputs, (cylindrical sections for the chassis @BosePratap?) this device could find global application. As a tour ‘bus’ in crowded European tourist centres? I’m always impressed by rural transport innovations, where necessity is the mother of invention.”
The video shows a youth riding the vehicle in what appears to be a village background. As the person making video stops him and asks about the unique electric cycle, he says that the amount spent on making the vehicle was just Rs 10,000 to 12,000. He further said that it’s a six-seater vehicle and can run up to 150 km. He says that the charges for commuting will be just Rs 10.
The video has garnered nearly 9 lakh views so far on Twitter. Netizens couldn’t stop praising and appreciating the innovation and left positive comments.
A user commented, “Hopefully this young man would get guidance about getting his design patented so it can be commercially exploited.”
Another user wrote, “I’m amazed at the price of less than $150. Guess he’s only talking of material cost. If a corporation makes this the price will be $1500 at min ( 10x of COGS ). So, best to put the design in open source and let the community innovate!” A third user commented, “Hats off to such young talents of India..”
