The iconic Austrian brand KTM has unveiled the 2023 version of the limited-edition 1290 Super Duke RR. The super streetfighter offering can only be produced in a total of 500 pieces worldwide. Staying true to the design concept seen in the present Duke line-up, the superbike offers the same levels of fury as the previous-generation model, but with a meaner look.
Why is this story important?
One of the best-handling liter-class streetfighter bikes in the world is the KTM 1290 Super Duke R. It is properly termed the “Beast” by the firm.
The carmaker has, however, produced a high-performance “RR” version of its monstrous motorbike, based on the brand’s “Ready to Race” mentality, to take things to a new level.
It currently has a power-to-weight ratio of 1:1.
To emphasise its posture, the hyperbike has body panels with a crisp appearance.
The 2023 KTM 1290 Super Duke RR shares the same aggressive design language as the normal model. It is equipped with a sharp LED headlamp, built-in split-type DRLs, a powerful fuel tank with extensions, a broad handlebar, a triple clamp assembly inspired by racing, a rider-only saddle, and light forged wheels. With contrasting white logos and orange accents, the bike has a gloss black and matte carbon base.
It weighs 11 kg less than the conventional model
The frame, sub-frame assembly, and bodywork of the 2023 KTM 1290 Super Duke RR have all been made mostly of carbon fibre, which has allowed it to weigh 11kg less than its normal form. With its 180kg kerb weight, it has now managed to attain a 1:1 power-to-weight ratio. A fully adjustable WP APEX PRO suspension system is included.
The limited-edition 1290 Super Duke RR has a fully adjustable WP APEX PRO suspension arrangement at both ends, unlike the Super Duke R upon which it is based. It has front forks made particularly for the bike, the WP APEX PRO 7548 close cartridge forks, and a steering damper, the WP APEX PRO 7117. The WP APEX PRO 7746 mono-shock unit was built specifically for the rear portion.
As an alternative, Akrapovic EVO line exhaust is offered
For the 2023 1290 Super Duke RR, KTM has included an Akrapovic Slip-on exhaust arrangement as standard equipment. As an added bonus for consumers seeking more oomph, the business is also ready to retrofit a full-system Akrapovic EVO line exhaust configuration. The hyperbike can breathe more freely thanks to the top-of-the-line exhaust system, which efficiently delivers maximum power.
It is powered by a 1,301cc, 180-horsepower V-twin engine.
A 1,301cc, liquid-cooled, 75-degree V-twin engine with 180hp of maximum power and 140Nm of peak torque powers the limited-edition 1290 Super Duke RR in 2023. The engine is mated to a 6-speed manual transmission with a bi-directional quickshifter and a PASC slipper clutch.
