The Fake Currency Case in Ahmedabad
According to a report from Deccan Herald, a significant case has emerged in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, where police seized fake currency amounting to ₹1.60 crore. The counterfeit notes, all in denominations of ₹500, were discovered in multiple bundles.
Differences Between Fake and Genuine Notes
The report highlights the stark differences between the counterfeit notes and genuine ₹500 notes. Notably, the fake notes feature Anupam Kher’s photo in place of Mahatma Gandhi's. Additionally, instead of "Reserve Bank of India," the fake notes are printed with "Rizol Bank of India." While the design closely resembles the real ₹500 notes, certain indicators make it clear that they are counterfeit. For instance, the genuine notes state "SBI" for the State Bank of India, whereas the fake notes incorrectly state "Start Bank of India."
Police Action Against Counterfeit Printing Press
On September 22, Gujarat police announced that the Surat police had uncovered an illegal printing press operating out of a cloth store and arrested four individuals. During the raid, the police recovered fake currency amounting to ₹120,000. Deputy Commissioner of Police Rajdeep Nakum reported that officers from the Surat police's Special Operations Group (SOG) conducted the operation in the Sarathana area, leading to the arrests. The police apprehended three individuals at the printing press, and based on their information, a fourth suspect was also captured. The discovery of this counterfeit currency has left the police astonished.
This incident not only raises concerns about counterfeit currency but also highlights the creative yet illegal practices involved in its production.
