Bengaluru police have finally captured notorious thief Samir Sharma, who evaded arrest for five years and is involved in over 100 cases with around 30 arrest warrants. Sharma was held on 7th November 2024 after breaking into a house and stealing worth more than ₹5.6 lakh. On matching his fingerprints, police found his long criminal history, which linked him to numerous thefts in various parts of Bengaluru, Goa, and Punjab.

According to reports, Sharma, a 40-year-old resident of Karwar, started his criminal activities in the year 2010 after shutting down his electronics shop. Influenced by the profit potential in stolen electronics, he ventured into burglary. An interesting fact about Sharma is that he robbed only during daylight hours, not during the nights. Sharma would gain entry through windows and escape with valuables, specially targeting highly sought commodities, such as laptops and mobile phones.

Although Sharma has been arrested earlier, he had avoided talking to anyone and kept mum about his past and activities. He had all alone committed over 100 cases of theft that have been reported between 2015 and 2019. In 2019, for instance, Sharma committed seven cases in Goa and five in Punjab. Bengaluru's SP M. Narayan said Sharma was not connected with any gang and committed all of his cases independently. The loots were mostly sold to arrange for his traveling expenses.

Sharma's arrest marks the culmination of an extensive manhunt that throws light on calculated and persistent criminal activities he has been pursuing. Further investigations are pursuing his networks and recovering stolen property.
