BBMP Contractors Halt All Projects Over Unpaid Bills Worth ₹1,600 Crore

Bengaluru, September 2 – In a significant development, contractors working on various projects under the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) have decided to halt all ongoing work in protest against unpaid bills amounting to ₹1,600 crore. The contractors claim that despite repeated appeals, including letters to the Deputy Chief Minister, their dues have not been cleared.
The BBMP contractors allege that the civic body has only paid 75% of their bills, leaving 25% outstanding for the past two years. Frustrated by the lack of response, the contractors have now decided to stage an indefinite strike starting today, putting a stop to all BBMP-related projects across the city.
The strike is expected to disrupt several key projects, including:
Road construction
Infrastructure development
Ward-level maintenance
Major stormwater drainage works
White-topping projects
BBMP electrical works
This move comes after allegations surfaced that BBMP officials were withholding payments to contractors while demanding commissions. The decision to withhold 25% of the bills has raised suspicions and sparked widespread discontent among the contractors.
With all major BBMP projects coming to a standstill, the city’s residents are likely to face significant inconveniences. The contractors have vowed to continue their strike until their pending bills are fully cleared.
