An elderly man was allegedly refused entry to a shopping mall in Bengaluru for wearing a dhoti, a traditional Indian garment. A video capturing the incident at GT Mall, where the man and his son pleaded with security staff, has sparked widespread outrage online.
The incident took place on Tuesday evening when the father and son were stopped by security personnel at the mall entrance, despite having booked tickets for a movie.
In the video, security staff can be seen informing the man that the mall's policy prohibits entry to individuals dressed in dhotis. Despite the father’s explanations that they had traveled a long distance and could not change their attire, the mall supervisor allegedly insisted that these were strict managerial instructions.
Reports indicate that security personnel demanded the man change into pants to gain entry to the mall.
The video has gone viral, triggering criticism and heated discussions on social media. Many have condemned the mall's security and management for "disrespecting" the elderly man and disregarding traditional attire.

A user on X, ChekrishnaCk, commented, "The mall should correct this mistake and provide a one-year free movie pass to the old person as compensation."
Another user wrote, "Those who have self-respect should ensure to wear only a dhoti when going to this GT Mall. Dhoti is part of our culture. Had we preserved it like Tamils/Malayalis, then these scums wouldn't have had the courage to stop us in our own land from wearing our attire!"
The management of GT Mall has yet to issue a statement regarding the incident.
