Bengaluru, Karnataka – Ayyanna Reddy, a Bengaluru police inspector, was arrested on Thursday by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) for allegedly aiding BJP MLA Munirathna in multiple criminal conspiracies tied to a high-profile rape case.

Reddy, previously serving at the Hebbagodi police station, becomes the second individual detained in the case, following the September filing of an FIR against Munirathna. The complaint was lodged by a 40-year-old social worker from Rajarajeshwari Nagar, who accused the MLA of rape, blackmail, and coercion.

Inspector's Alleged Role

Reddy, known for his year-long tenure at Hebbagodi and previous postings in areas under Munirathna’s RR Nagar constituency, is accused of leveraging his police connections to assist the MLA. A senior police official suggested that Reddy’s prolonged assignments in these areas may have strengthened his ties to Munirathna.

The SIT uncovered Reddy’s involvement while interrogating Munirathna’s close associates, linking him to several criminal activities.

Allegations Against Munirathna

The MLA faces serious accusations across three separate cases filed at Vyalikaval and Kaggalipura police stations, including:

  • Rape and Sexual Harassment: Allegations by the complainant include sexual assault and blackmail.
  • Voyeurism and Extortion: Explicit videos were allegedly used for coercion and blackmail.
  • Criminal Intimidation: Threats and attempts to suppress complaints.
  • SC/ST Act Violations: Charges under the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act for promoting enmity.

The complainant, a BJP worker, also accused Munirathna and his associates of coercing her into honey-trapping others, including the husband of a former Bengaluru corporator.

Legal Developments

While Munirathna was initially taken into custody, he has since been granted bail. Investigations are ongoing, with the SIT intensifying its probe into his associates and alleged conspiracies.

The case underscores the growing concerns over political influence and misuse of power in Karnataka. Authorities have promised a thorough investigation to ensure justice for the victim.
