Bengaluru, September 2: The Deputy Chief Minister of Karnataka, DK Shivakumar, announced plans to construct roads along the canals in Bengaluru, aimed at improving local connectivity. Speaking at a press conference at Vidhana Soudha, Shivakumar revealed that the state government plans to build 30-40 feet wide roads spanning a total of 300 kilometers, with the first phase covering 100 kilometers.

"We are setting aside ₹200 crore for this project, and the roads will be reserved exclusively for local vehicles and school buses. Government and private buses will not be allowed on these roads," said Shivakumar. He added that those who provide land for the road construction will be adequately compensated.

Shivakumar also discussed a statewide cleanliness initiative in memory of Mahatma Gandhi. The program will be launched on October 2, Gandhi Jayanti, and will involve awareness campaigns in 1,000 schools and colleges across Karnataka. "Students will be encouraged to participate in cleanliness drives and submit photos as part of the awareness initiative," he said.

Additionally, the Deputy CM addressed the issue of potholes in Bengaluru, stating that 2,795 potholes have been identified. "We have given a 15-day deadline to fix the potholes, and ₹660 crore has been allocated for the main roads. After 15 days, I will personally inspect the progress, riding my old bike along with the Commissioner," Shivakumar remarked.

In other remarks, Shivakumar confirmed that the Ettinahole project will be inaugurated at 12:05 PM on Gauri Habba day, urging farmers and the public to participate in the event. He also responded to MLA RV Deshpande's recent comments expressing aspirations for the Chief Minister's position, stating that Siddaramaiah will continue as CM and that Deshpande, being a senior leader, will be given due respect.
