Bengaluru Woman’s Selfless Liver Donation Ends in Tragedy: 33-Year-Old Mom Dies After Saving Husband’s Aunt
In a heartbreaking incident from Bengaluru, a 33-year-old woman, Archana Kamat, died after donating a part of her liver to her husband's aunt. According to a report by The Times of India, Archana made the selfless decision to donate a portion of her liver to save her husband’s ailing aunt, who had been searching for a liver donor for 18 months. Tragically, complications following the surgery led to her untimely death just days after the procedure. Archana leaves behind her husband and a four-year-old son.
What Happened After the Surgery?
Archana underwent the liver donation surgery on September 4. She remained in the hospital for seven days following the procedure before being discharged. However, her condition deteriorated soon after returning home, and she was readmitted to the hospital. Unfortunately, she developed an infection, which ultimately claimed her life.
Who Was Archana Kamat?
Archana Kamat, a lecturer, was the mother of a four-year-old boy. Her husband works as a chartered accountant. Archana's husband’s aunt had been suffering from liver-related ailments for years and was in desperate need of a donor. After learning about the situation, Archana decided to donate a part of her liver to save her. Sadly, Archana passed away at Sevaanjali Charitable Trust Hospital in Bengaluru.
Social Media Reactions
The incident has stirred strong reactions on social media, with people expressing both admiration and concern. While many have praised Archana for her selflessness, others have questioned the decision to donate an organ, especially as a mother of a young child. Some users voiced their belief that the risks involved in such a procedure were too great, given her family responsibilities.
This is really stupid. A 33 yr old woman agrees to donate liver to 65 yr old sister of her mother in law whose liver was 60% damaged. The 33 yr old dies & leaves behind her 4 yr old. Family says she insisted which I highly doubt. In the end a small child lost his mother. Sad! pic.twitter.com/8zthrUMiYb

The incident has raised questions about the emotional and physical toll of organ donation, particularly for young mothers, and has sparked a debate over the balance between altruism and personal well-being.
Why is social media trying to portray late Archana as a hero? She was a 33 year old with a 4 year old son. The husband will remarry. Son lost her mother. A 33 year old donates 60% of the liver to a 63 year old. Who does that? Selfish family including husband well planned moves.
