Bengaluru, September 2: A cyber fraud case involving a scammer impersonating a representative from BYJU’S Tuition Center has come to light in Bengaluru, leading to the loss of ₹1.3 lakh from the victim's bank account. The incident has been reported to the Cyber Crime Police Station, which is currently investigating the matter.

Ram Kailash Yadav, the victim, had enrolled his son in a BYJU’S Tuition Center. Dissatisfied with the tuition services, he requested a refund of the fees. During this time, the tuition center reportedly closed down, allegedly due to unpaid rent, leaving Yadav in a predicament.

Soon after, Yadav received a call from an individual claiming to be from BYJU’S, offering assistance to process the refund. The scammer sent a link to Yadav, instructing him to download a file named "rustdesk.apk." Upon installation, the app allowed the fraudster to access Yadav's bank account, from which ₹1.3 lakh was stolen.

Yadav, realizing he had been scammed, immediately reported the incident to his bank and filed a complaint with the Cyber Crime Police. Despite the ongoing investigation, Yadav continues to receive messages from BYJU’S Tuition Center, claiming outstanding tuition fees, adding to his confusion and distress.

This case serves as a reminder of the growing threat of cybercrime, particularly in educational sectors where trust is paramount. The authorities are urging the public to be vigilant and cautious when dealing with unsolicited requests for financial information online.

In a separate incident, a delivery worker was stabbed in Ashok Nagar, Bengaluru, after failing to deliver a package directly to a customer's door. The incident highlights the increasing risks faced by service workers in the city. The police have arrested the accused, Arbaaz, while the injured courier, Mohammad Rafi, is receiving treatment in the hospital.
